With the election, it’s important to decide if you want to vote. Nikki Pardy, a first-time voter, says that she is voting for the NDP.

Nikki Pardy, a Mount Saint Vincent University student majoring in psychology, based her vote on research.

“I was analyzing issues that were important to me,” Pardy said. “It was a combination of using the CBC Vote Compass, what political parties have advocated for in the past, and what they’ve achieved.”

What encouraged her to vote for NDP was wealth inequality. Pardy says that many are leaving other provinces to live in Nova Scotia and those who make moves can afford it.

“The government tends to cater to people who can afford to spend the most money on housing. Because of that, we’ve left our citizens in a bit of despair. Because there’s no proper housing being built for us.” said Pardy.

Another issue that matters is the transgender community, Pardy is transgender. Pardy says that she thinks that the NDP will help the transgender community.

“They’re looking to work with provinces to standardize access to Transgender Health Care,” said Pardy, “Whether you’re in Nova Scotia, or Ontario, or Alberta, or BC, you get access to the same rights of gender affirming care as anyone else.”

Pardy says that everyone has the right to vote, and that people should vote for whoever they think would be the best candidate.

The Canadian Federal Election will happen on September 20,2021.
